History of the Internet

the internet is used for education, research, social networking, sharing thoughts & ideas, finding and applying for a job, buying and selling stuff, sharing study notes/assignments, entertainment (gossip, games, videos, music) and finally news.

The internet was created because people were worried about nuclear attacks so they created a network were all the computers were able to communicate. it really became popular when they introduced images and graphics.
Robert Kahn of BB&N and Vinton Cerf of Stanford were the ones who are most responsible for creating the internet because they developed the transmission system for sending data between different networks of computers that were running incompatible operating systems. The systems they developed called TCP/IP (transmission control protocol and internet protocol) was the technical achievement that made the internet as we know, possible. Every time you connect to the internet, your internet service provider assigns your computer a unique numerical address. This unique address identifies your computer on the network so that you can request and recieve information. This address is called an IP address. When you initiate a request, like clicking on a link, the request travels across the internet in the form of data packets stamped with your IP address, hence the name IP package. An IP package is compromised of the size of the packet, sender and destination addresses as well as the data being sent. If an IP packet is lost they are discarded.
