Art Gallery

I used Wix to create the site. Here is the address.
www.wix.com/hippogirl94/School
You can chose to start from a template or create from scratch (which is what I did) and this allows you more creative freedom. It is very easy to manage the photos in the gallery as you click on the gallery and select manage photos. You can select from different menus so the navigation will be easy and straight forward for the users. Due to the creative freedom you can make the site as sophisticated as you want. You can have multiple sites with the one account so you might even have different sites for each year group and have a set of links to each of them.
At the moment you can't search through the gallery but the wix team is currently in advanced development stages on it so it should be released in the near future.
Here is a survey which I would really appreciate if you spare a minute of your time to complete. Thanks!

Art 3000

Positives It is designed specifically for artworks and photography.
You can just select from the dropdown menu various aspects of the artwork like form of art, style, genre, media, year and you can also type in a description easily.
You can uploads lots of artworks.

Negatives
The navigation is really confusing.
It's complicated to do certain things like opening a new page/tab or gallery.
I think you can only do still images.
I can't figure out how to change the background/template and because the back colour is black it looks really dark and depressing.

Blue Zeppelin

Positives
It's very easy to manage, upload new pictures and write descriptions (this is where you can put the materials used, artist, size of the artwork).
When you click the image it does zoom a little bit and then includes the description.

Negatives
You can only have 6 artworks.
Image types are: jpg, gif or png
Maximum file size is 3 megabytes.
You have to upgrade to change the template or remove the ads however the upgrades are currently disabled so you can't change it.
You can't have new tabs or pages or galleries.

Overall I don't think we should use this website as it isn't the best suited for our needs. I also decided to include a screenshot to show how annoying the ads are and to show how boring the default template is.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Exhibitions

Real World- Advantages
-you are able to talk about the various artworks with more people
-the artist can talk to the viewers and get their opinions straight away

Real World- Disadvantages
-it is harder to see some artworks in detail because of their positioning on the wall
-equity issues like amount of display time or more/better wall space
-it takes around 2 days to set up and it is hard to make sure the artworks don't clash
-the artworks may get vandalised
-there isn't as much storage space for other equipment
-there is a limited display life as it is still a classroom
-the teachers may keep the artwork for another exhibition but the students want to take it home and they move onto another artwork and forget to take home their original artwork.

Virtual-Advantages
-the artwork can be put on display for longer
-students can take their artwork home straight away
-people can see the artwork clearly, without obstruction
-easier to manage equity issues
-avaliable to a wider audience (not just students and teachers)
-background images and general GUI can enhance the theme
-more artworks can be put on display and you can randomly look through them or do a search
-it can include different types of media like videos
-it would be easy to tell people about any upcoming events or general announcements

Virtual-Disadvantages
-you can't control how public it will be
-the student may not want their artwork on the internet (because it's there forever) but they feel pressured to do so because of the teachers
-it's harder to control copyright issues
-if there are a lot of picture on the page it will take forever to load

Google Reader

It allows you to know about any recent updates to your favourite websites without having to actually go through all of them. If the website provides a feed then you can add it's URL to the reader by clicking 'add a subscription'.
You would know if it provides a feed by the following symbol.

All you need is a google account which is free. This allows you to easily keep up with recent events which is a benefit for certain subjects.

Google Calender

The first Google product I'm going to talk about is the Calender. You can create events with one click of the mouse and you can set it to repeat (eg. for a birthday) or add notes to remind you to take something or do something to help organise it. I haven't yet figured out how to put my school timetable on it but I am working on it. There are many different views so you can manage your schedule the way you want.

The first view is the day. The red line indicates what the time currently is.

This is the week view. The highlighted column is the day you are viewing it and the red line indicates what the current time is.

This is the month view. It includes any public holidays as well as any events you have programmed into it. The yellow/orange cell is the day you are viewing it.

This is the agenda view. It is basically a list of public holidays and yopur events in chronological order with their date and time (if included) next to it.

Google Documents

You are able to create documents that can be shared with certain people, people who have been given the link or publish it on the internet for all to see. You can easily share your document with other people who have google docs by entering their email address in under the 'add people' heading. They can check their google docs account and see any shared documents and open it. You can also change the settings so people the document is either read-only or able to be edited.
When you can edit it you can see the changes as they happen so you don't need to refreash the page to see any updates.
By going to 'file' then 'see revision history' you can see who has made what changes to the document so if it is a group assignment you can see who is pulling their weight.
If you go 'file' then 'download as' you can download a copy of the document as a different file type such as PDF, Word or HTML.

It makes group work very easy as all you need is either a google account or the link to work on the document. It is also easy to email as an attachment. Just 'share' then 'email as attachment'. You don't have to just be stuck with documents but can also do presentations, spreadsheets, forms and drawings.
The upload limit is 1GB.For documents you can store around 100 pages. For presenations you can store around 200 slides.

iGoogle

It is handy because you can have different gadgets like a to do list which helps you to remember to do various things. I fouind a dictionary gadget but you can also use it as a thesaurus or search the web.  There are lot's of gadgets to chose from which can all help you to organise yourself. You can make different tabs to organise your different gadgets or subjects.

In the Links tab I got a bookmarks gadget so I can just click the link to go to certain websites. To add a website you click edit settings and add the URL of the website you want. It make it easier to quickly get to the right website.

When you go to the iGoogle settings and click the contacts tab you have a contacts list which includes any information you entered for the individual. With one click of the mouse you can easily email them and if you email someone it keeps their email address in case you need it later.

Theory for the Assignment

Introduction

(Replace this with:  what is the purpose or problem that the program is trying to solve)
You are playing an adapted version of scissors, paper, rock against the computer. The computer randomly chooses an option so you can never predict what will happen which makes it quite hard. Instead of the original scissors, paper and rock there is a Wizard, Ninja and Knight which should make the game more interesting and enticing to play.  You have to choose a character and what the computer has randomly chosen will determine the outcome of the game.

Algorithm Outlining the Program

Explanation of Data Types used

(What types are used in the variables in your program and where ? Remember the DIM statement)
Text- There are labels for the instructions, score, the outcome (whether you won, lost or drew) and the line “chose your character” and there’s also text on the buttons so the user wil know what each button does. In the code of buttons 1, 2 and 3 I put in text for the label which tells you the outcome of your choice.
Integer- The variable ‘Score’ is an integer. This variable allows the whole game to happen as this is what makes the computer choices randomly. The random choice of the computer determines whether you win, lose or draw.

Use of Error Detection

(explain how your program handles incorrect user inputs)
I designed it so that there can’t be any incorrect user inputs. The use of buttons instead of textboxes stops the user from incorrectly entering their choice of character. The labels stop the user from accidently changing the instructions or their score. The whole thing is click based so the user doesn’t type anything incorrect.

Control Structure examples

(copy and paste the appropriate section from your program and explain)
Sequence: You click your choice of character. Then the computer randomly choses a number. The number chosen will determine the outcome of the game therefore what is displayed (whether you win, lose or draw). If you win then another image will change. The computer doesn’t chose the number before you chose your character and the image doesn’t change before you chose your character. First bit of code:

2nd:

3rd:

4th:

5th:

Selection: You have to chose your character button or the new game button for something to  happen.
Repetition: There isn’t any repetition. Only if the user repeats an action. Eg, clicking a character.

Funny things that some human beings at one time wrote.

I randomly found these on the internet and I thought that everyone would get a good laugh out of them.

1. Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master.
2. His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.
3. He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.
4. She grew on him like she was a colony of E. coli, and he was room temperature Canadian beef.
5. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.
6. Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.
7. He was as tall as a six-foot, three-inch tree.
8. The revelation that his marriage of 30 years had disintegrated because of his wife’s infidelity came as a rude shock, like a surcharge at a formerly surcharge-free ATM machine.
9. The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t.
10. McBride fell 12 stories, hitting the pavement like a Hefty bag filled with vegetable soup.
11. From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you’re on vacation in another
city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30
12. Her hair glistened in the rain like a nose hair after a sneeze.
13. The hailstones leaped from the pavement, just like maggots when you fry them in hot grease.
14. Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.
15. They lived in a typical suburban neighborhood with picket fences that resembled Nancy Kerrigan’s teeth.
16. John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.
17. He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant, and she was the East River.
18. Even in his last years, Granddad had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long, it had rusted shut.
19. Shots rang out, as shots are wont to do.
20. The plan was simple, like my brother-in-law Phil. But unlike Phil, this plan just might work.
21. The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for a while.
22. He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck, either, but a real duck that was actually lame, maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.
23. The ballerina rose gracefully en Pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.
24. It was an American tradition, like fathers chasing kids around with power tools.
25. He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up.

Notes on Variables

object- button, text box
event- hover, click, type something in
properties- colour, text, size
variable- string variable is letters and/or numbers, integer variable is a whole number, decimal variable is number with some sort of decimals in it.
way to tell the programme its a variable is to enter: Dim *insert name of variable here* As *either String, Integer or Decimal*. Eg. Dim clock As Integer

HiLO Guessing Game

1) How many objects are referred to? What are they?
There's one variable, two text boxes and two buttons.
2) What is the name of the variable referred to?
secretnum
3) What are the three text options that appear in textbox1?
higher, lower and correct.
4) What do you think this code does?
You would enter a number in one of the text boxes and click a button but if the random number is higher, lower or if it's correct the other text box would tell you.
5) Well actually you should replace TextBox2 with a label and that means replacing TextBox2 in the code with Label1. This means that you can't enter something in the wrong textbox which is what I was doing which is why it wasn't working. In the original code I was entering a number where it shouldn't have been entered which is why you change it into a label because you can't enter a number in a label. The first button checks your answer and the second button resets it.

Simple Timer

Ohhh... once sir goes through it with us it makes so much sense. Anyways here is the code for a simple timer that counts in 0.1 seconds and also resets.

Make sure you put the Dim part right under public class (that's the first line).
For the timer have the Enabled property set as false to begin with and if you wanted to change it so it counts as seconds not 0.1 seconds you chage the interval to 1000 and the +0.1 to +1.
I used 2 buttons, 1 label, a timer and the variable clock.

Random Number Generator

The INT function returns the integer part of a specified number.
Rnd is used to return psuedo-random values. These values may look random but because they use complex mathematical formulas they technically aren't random as they are still predictable.
Each time the program is run the psuedo-random values returned by Rnd are always the same. To overcome this you use randomize to initialise VB's random number generator. To avoid generating the same sequence of psuedo-random values you call randomize before you call Rnd.
To change the different values it can choose from you change the highest and lowest values. In the following code the highest is 10 and the lowest is 1. This means that it can choose a value between 1 and 10. You put it after:  Handles Button1.Click

I've changed the code so that it can only choose between 1 and 3.

Variables

A variable is like a bucket with a whole heap of events in it.
Dim means 'remember this'.
Eg Dim myname As String. This means to remember myname as a string variable.
Eg. Dim number As Integer. This means to remember the number as an integer variable.
Eg. Dim point As Decimal. This menas to remember that decimal as a deciaml variable.
Note: Rnd ( ) generates a random number between 0 and 0.9999999

In the code of button one I put: number = Rnd ( )

Label1.Text = number
and this goes after Handles Button1.Click

In the code of button two I put: point = Rnd ( )
Label2.Text = point
this goes after Handles Button2.Click

In the code of button three I put myname = TextBox1.Text
Label3.Text = myname
this goes after Handles Button3.Click
Here is the finished product:

Happy or Sad

Here is the finished product:

Here is the code I used to make this possible (I hope you can read it):
The faces are just pictures I got from the internet. I used 2 radio buttons for each picture. I changed the background because white is so boring.

Heads and Tails

The first white box you se is a label but in the text part of the properties I've put a whole heap of spaces and made sure the background colour is white. The second box is a button where the text has been changed to 'CHECK'. The final box is a text box where the user can type somehing in. I put the following code into the code of the button.
If TextBox1.Text = "heads" Then Label1.Text = "win"
If TextBox1.Text = "tails" Then Label1.Text = "lose"

The code above is an example of selection. If you misspell heads or tails or use a capital letter then the label will stay the same as the last one.

A solution to this problm would be to use radio buttons because the user wouldn't type in something wrong. To put the radio buttons in I put in the following code:
If Heads.Checked = "true" Then Label1.Text = "win"

If Tails.Checked = "true" Then Label1.Text = "lose"
A user friendly programme should always allow for user input errors.

Visual Basic

If you want to add something to your form click the tab on the left of the screen that says tools.
To change the properties of something you click it then in the bottom right corner there are a whole heap of things you can change.
If you want to view your form to see if it works then click the green play button found jus under the tab windows. To get back to the design mode you click the blue stop button where the play button was.
To change what the button does eg. hide picture, double click it and type insert file name of picture here. Visable=False. This means that when you click the button hide the picture will disappear. To make it show again do the same for the button show but type True instead of False. This also works for the radio button.
To insert a picture select picturebox, go to the property image and click the button with the dots in it. Then select local resource and import. To change the size of the image click the play type button in the corner and click stretch and then move the sides of the image to get it the right size.

Discussion: Ubuntu

An operating system stands between the user and the PC. If you want to print the OS tells the printer to print. It looks after hardware resources like keyboard, mouse, USB. It manages software like word and user access (who logs in). It manages services like the internet (it connects you to the internet) and printing. It manages utilities like defragmenting the harddrive (telling the harddrive to put the seperated pieces of a programme together or next to each other on it) and backing up your work.
Examples of an OS are:
Windows- XP (buy it)
               - Vista (buy it)
              -7 (buy it)
Mac-OSX (comes with it)
Linux- red hat
        - debian
        -Ubuntu (free)
Ubuntu is free, it has an equivelent type of office called open office which is free, open surcce, runs on a lower specifications on the PC and can work on a live CD (the operating system is on a CD).

Here are some questions sir gave us and I will attempt to answer them however at the moment I'm not in a question answering mood so they probably won't be much help, anyways....
What are some different versions of Ubuntu?
Find information about the Google OS.
Find information about the type of recommended computer for this.
What do they mean by portable versions?

Flowcharts

A flowchart is a visual representation of operations and sequences to be performed that solve a problem or complete a task. It is a visual algorithm. If you connect an arrow back to an earlier step you don't point it to the rectangle or paralleogram, you point it to the arrow coming out of it. With the rectangle you can have one flowline in and one out but with the diamond you can one in and two out. In the diamond it must be a yes or no question. You never have diagonal arrows. Here are some basic symbols and an example I made:

Here is an example of a flowchart for a coin toss where heads means one person pays and tails means the other person pays.

Selection and Repition

Solving a problem often involves making a decision between two or more options. In an algorithm this process of making a decision is called selection. Repition is important to get the desired effect or objective.

Here are some examples of an algorithm:
Moving through a set of traffic lights
1) start driving until a set of traffic lights are in sight
2) if the lights are green keep going at the same speed
3) if the lights are orange slow the speed of the car down
3) if the lights are red stop the car at the line or behind the car in front

Blowing up a balloon.
1) strech balloon a bit
2) inhale deeply and hold
3) raise balloon to lips
3) blow into the balloon
4) pinch the neck of the balloon
5) look to see if balloon is at a satisfactory size
6) if too small repeat steps 2-6
7) if too big open neck a little bit for 2 seconds

Algorithms

Here are some definitions:
unambiguous- clearly defined meaning, no doublt or misunderstanding
processor- the part of a computer that does most of the data processing
finite- has an end
algorithm- an umambiguous set of steps which when performed correctly by a processor, will result in a process being carried out in a finte time

To make an algorithm correct the sequence of steps must be in the correct order. Algorithms are composed of three basic structures, Sequence, Selection and Repition. Solving a problem often involves making a decision between two or more options. In an algorithm this process of making a decision is called selection.
Here are some examples of algorithms:
Calling a friend on the phone.
1) pick up the phone
2) enter their phone number in the correct sequence using the buttons with the numbers on them
3) press the 'talk' button
4) raise the phone to your ear
5) wait until your friend answers
6) if parent or older sibling answers, politely ask for friend
7) have the desired conversation with your friend
8) lower the phone from your ear
9) press the 'call end' button
10) put phone back in the holder

Making toast.
1) get bread out of cupboard
2) get toaster out of cupboard
3) plug the end of the cable into a power socket
4) turn on the power point
5) get 1 slice of bread out of the packet
6) slide bread into one of the openings in the top of the toaster
7) select the heat setting on the toaster
8) press down handle to start heating bred
9) wait for toast to pop up
10) get breadboard, knife and margarine out
11) put toast on breadboard
12) spread margarine on toast using knife
13) cut toast into half
14) if too hot to eat leave to cool for a few minutes

Internet Addresses Activity

A URL is an address.
An IP address is a unique address each seperate machine has. Each one is expressed as 'octets' in a 'dotted decimal number'. For example: 216.27.61.137  The four numbers in an IP address are called octets because they have a value between 0 and 255. The browser communicates with a name server to translate the URL into a IP address which it uses to connect to the server machine.
Upload speed is how quickly your computer sends stuff to the internt and download speed is how quickly the internet sends stuff to your computer.
The units used to measure download and upload speed id bits and bytes.
Different locations offer different speeds because of how many computers are using the same

Data Compression for the Web

1) Name two programmes used for file compression
WinZip and Stuffit.

2)What name is given to the file compression method that looks for redundant patterns?
Lossless and Lossy Compression
Why can't music be compressed efficiently with this type of compression technique?
music has lots of unique information so it can't be compressed much with this system because it doesn't have many repeating patterns.

3) What method of compression is most suited to graphics and music files?
The Lossless is better because it lets you recreate the original file exactly.

4) Name compressed file formats for the following media:
music- mp3 (it's compressed to roughly one-tenth the original size while maintaining a good quality).
still graphics- PNG uses ZIP compression, JPEG always uses lossy compression, GIF uses lossless.
video- WMV allows large video files to be compressed while retaining the rich quality of the video.

Tips

to make it look professional make a table and centre it but you can left justify the writing or picture inside. this makes it neater and doesn't make it go in the centre which looks bad. to hide the table borders right click in the table go to table properties and make the border size 0.

If you want a new row in the menu just add a another line in the URL part of the code. you should get the menu working on one page then copy it onto the rest of the pages because if you want to make a change you have to go to every page and change the menu code.

make sure you save any pictures or music to the frontpage image and audio folder.

to put in the background music right click on the background and go to page properties to select which audio you wold like to play.

Using FrontPage to Create Web Pages

1) What steps are recommended in planning your site?
Create a goal. Sketch out the structure of the site on paper beforehand. Sketch a common layout for each page.

2) What is a web server?
A web server is a computer that runs special serving software. That software 'serves' HTML pages and associated files when requested by a client, such as a web browser. When you use your browser to visit a site, you typically make your request by entering a URL. When the server receives your request, it serves or downloads the page you need, plus all its associated files like pictures and so on.

3) How do you put your website on a web server?
To put your site on a web server you publish it. Publishing generally means copying all of the files to a remote location on a server. In most cases the remote location is either an HTTP path or FTP path. The path you use depends on what technologies your server supports. If your web server is running Front Page Server Extensions or Share Point Services you would would publish you site to a HTTP location. For example, http://MyServer/MyWebSite.

4) Front Page has 2 key functions- website design and management.

5) What is Front Page Metadata and which two folders contain these files?
Front Page metadata is information about your Front Page Website that makes managing the site possible. This data is used by Front Page to do all the great management features like creating & moving files, running reports and publishing. That's why you don't see all these files in Front Page because if you did see them they might get in the way of designing you site.
The _vti_cnf folder contains information about every file, such as which links are within the file and who modified the file and when. The _vti_pvt folder stores all the configuration inforamtion for the site, for example, which subsites are in the website and the permission configurations for the site.

6) There are 2 basic types of website that you can create in Front Page. What are they and how do they differ?
The 2 types are disk-based websites and server-based websites.
A disk-based website is a site you create on your local hard drive. After you design and work on your site you can later publish it to a remote location like a web server. Disk-based sites are most commonly used because they have a clear advantage: you can edit and test them on your hard drive before they go live.
A server-based website is a site that you create and work with directly on a web server. When you save your pages, the site is immediately updated. Some people refer to this as working with a website "in real time".

Login Stuff

G'day all! Well I thought I should post about what I did in class today so I can look back and know what I am doing for the assignment. We started looking at login pages. Due to the fact that the actual login appears on the blog instead of the tag you need to go to a certain website to get the tag. What I did was type in 'javascript login free' into Google and click the first webpage that comes up. The title should have cut & paste in it.

you have to put this tag in the body of the HTML. In the first set of ( ) where the quotation marks are is the username and password. The first quote ("free") is the username you can change the username by changing the word free. The second quote ("javascript") is the password.

Once you have made the login page you then need to make a success and failure page for the login to work. Get a new notepad and put in the opening and closing and . In the body of it make a new paragraph and say something along the lines of 'you have successfully logged in'. You HAVE to name it "success.htm" okay or else it won't work. You can change what you want to call it by: after the part with the * in it where it says load ('succes.htm'); you change the part in the ' '.

You also have to make a page where it says something along the lines of 'you have failed to login' and make sure you name it failure.htm

Make sure you put all of these in the same folder, but it's easier if you make a folder just for this.

Computing Anywhere, Anytime

What is meant by a netbook? What is the 'cloud' in cloud computing?
A netbook is a cheap (under $500), mini laptop however they can't handle extensive multi-tasking, they have minimal storage, cramped keyboards and small screens with bad resolutions. Cloud computing is used to allow services used in everyday practice to be moved onto the internet rather than stored on a local computer.

What applications does Google docs offer online? Why would you want documents stored in the 'cloud' online?
You can create documents, spreadsheets and presentations online. You can do all the basics like making bulleted lists, sorting by column, adding tables, images, comments, formulas, changing fonts, bold, underline, indent or changing background colour.
If you have your documets online you can invite people to view or edit it when they sign in so it's good for group work. You only need a computer with the internet and it has an auto-save feature. You can control who sees it.

What advantages do students and teachers find in Google docs?
It's easy to prepare assignments, meetings, chat online and organise schedules, even within groups. Even without thier USB or hard-drive they can still do the assignment or take notes for it. One teacher added the power points  to it and in the chat part of it, the students chatted about the presentatin and asked questions about it.

Which netbook, if any, would suit your needs? Explain.
I would like the Wind U115 Hybrid because it has a really good battery life which means that I can do an assignment for a long time without it dying on me or having an annoying bubble to tell me to connect it to the power point. It has a good memory so I can store plenty of school work on it. It is light for a computer so I can carry it around with me easily. The mouse pad thingy is quite large so I can move the cursor around easy and the keyboard is large for a netbook so it makes it easier to type.

Key Terms

Protocol is a set of rules and regulations for sending and recieving information on the network.

The TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) is used for breaking data down into an IP packet before they are sent, and assembling the packets when they arrive.
The IP (Internet Protocol) takes care of the communication with other computers and for the sending and receiving data packets.
The HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) takes care of the communication between a web server and the web browser and also for sending requests from a client (a browser) to a web server, returning web content (web pages) from the server back to the client.
The SMTP (Simple MailTransfer Protocol) is used for the transmission of e-mails.
The FTP (File Transfer Protocol) takes care of transmission of files between computers.

GUI stands for Graphical User Interface.
Before GUI was around people used batch processing to interact with the computer. it was when users would manually enter programs.

URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. The first part of the address indicates what protocol to use for example http, and the second part specifies the domain name for example google.com, where the resource is located.

In the context of data transmission error detection is a class of techniques for detecting garbled messages. One common method of error detection is checksum. Each transmitted message is accompanied by a numerical value based on the number of set bits in the message. The receiving station then applies the same formula to the message and checks to make sure the accompaning numerical value is the same. If not, the receiver can assume the message has been garbled.

HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. It's the language used to create documents on the web. HTML defines the structure and layout of the web document.

History of the Internet

the internet is used for education, research, social networking, sharing thoughts & ideas, finding and applying for a job, buying and selling stuff, sharing study notes/assignments, entertainment (gossip, games, videos, music) and finally news.

The internet was created because people were worried about nuclear attacks so they created a network were all the computers were able to communicate. it really became popular when they introduced images and graphics.
Robert Kahn of BB&N and Vinton Cerf of Stanford were the ones who are most responsible for creating the internet because they developed the transmission system for sending data between different networks of computers that were running incompatible operating systems. The systems they developed called TCP/IP (transmission control protocol and internet protocol) was the technical achievement that made the internet as we know, possible. Every time you connect to the internet, your internet service provider assigns your computer a unique numerical address. This unique address identifies your computer on the network so that you can request and recieve information. This address is called an IP address. When you initiate a request, like clicking on a link, the request travels across the internet in the form of data packets stamped with your IP address, hence the name IP package. An IP package is compromised of the size of the packet, sender and destination addresses as well as the data being sent. If an IP packet is lost they are discarded.

Answers for Part A

1) what legal/ethical issues need to be considered when implenmenting this database? Explain.
We should include a warning that some lyrics may be innaprpriate for younger people. We should ask the bands permission for using thier song, album cover, sample etc. so we don't breach copyright. Also we should make the information is up to date and totally correct so the customer doesn't buy the incorrect song and get angry at us and decide to sue us.

2) Discuss what advantages such a system has over conventional methods of organising and previewing music. It is much simpler, quicker and easier for the customer to find the song/band/album they are looking for because they don't have to go through the racks of CDs. Also the store can hold more songs digitally than with CDs so they have a larger variety of music. The store doesn't have to organise all the CDs on the racks and the customers wouldn't have to ask the workers if they have a certain song/band/album in yet which creates more time for the workers to do other important stuff.

3)Create a data dictionary for your database.
Field: Song, Type: Text, Description: The Song Title
Field: Artist, Type: Text, Description: The Artist Of The Song
Field: Album, Type: Text, Description: The Name Of The Album Which The Song Comes From
Field: Album Cover, Type: Object, Description: A Picture Of The Album Cover
Field: Genre, Type: Text, Description: The Style Of Music The Song Is
Field: Sample, Type: Object, Description: A Small Portion Of The Song To Listen To
Field: Duration, Type: Text, Description: How Long The Song Goes For

4) Storyboard how the user will navigate through your database. they will open to a main menu will a warning that somelyrics may be inappropriate for children and the following buttons: 'search by song', 'search by artist', 'search by album' and 'search by genre'. the user will click a button then the query box will open so then they type in the song/artist/album/genre and click 'ok'. then they will see a form come up with the song/artist/album/genre they typed in. on that form it will have the following buttons: 'back to main menu', 'next song/artist/album/genre' and 'previous song/artist/album/genre'. the user can go back to the main menu to search again or they go through all the songs with the 'next' and 'previous' buttons.

PROBLEM!

arghh.. none of the computers are working properly bacause noone can access their s drive and most people can't access the student window of the school website so we all have to work on the theory, writing pert of the assignment which just happens to be incredibly boring.
until the s drives are wroking we can't save our theory on a word document so i'll put my answers on another post.

Parameter Query

you go to 'create query in design view' and then select which table you want to use. drag which fields you want into the table. in the criteria row you paste in: LIKE "*" & (Enter any character to search by:) & "*" whatever is in the brackets will show up when the persons decides to query. save and name the query.
when you want the form to open up after the person has typed in what they are looking for you have to: go to 'create form using wizard' and then click the drop down window and select the query you need to make it show up and select which fields will show up. then select the style, format, name it and click finish. now when you click the form it will open the query.

creating a form

it is very easy to create a form where you select which fields are shown.
first you open up the database window then go to forms which is under objects. click new, then a window will open and you chose one of the autoforms or wizards. i chose to use form wizard.
in the drop down thingy you then choose which table or query you want the information to come from and click okay. another screen will open and you double click which fields you want to be shown and click next.
you then have to chose which format you want it to be shown in and click next. you then get to choose which background you want and click next. finally you name the form and click finish.
you are able to go through all the records with only the selected fields showing or go to the first or last record in the file.
here is an example of a form i created.

Latest Update

Well we are presenting our presentation next week therefore we have 2 lessons to do this. due to michaela being in melbourne me and michelle have split her question so i am also doing question 1 (the definition) while michelle is doing questions 2, 3 and 6.

here are some answers to my questions because i don't know where else to put them.
1) the ability to view and manage accounts using the internet.
4) well you can misuse online banking data by stealing money from other people's accounts or even pretending to be somebody else. you can gather their financial details and post it on the internet to embaress them or ruin their reputation.
5) it is unethical to sell somebody's details or to blackmail someone using their details or to stalk somebody because you have access to their details. it is ethical to protect it against people who are wanting to do the above things.

here is an example of a scam that is similar to what we are typing about. TROJAN HORSE. they are harmful programmes disguised to look like innocent software which infect a computer. it waits until the user visits a legitimate bank website then infects HTML into certain fields there. the programme then hijacks PINs and transaction numbers as the person enters them into the infected fields and the details are stored.

time is running out of this lesson and michelle and myself have finished answering the questions so we will make the powerpoint next lesson.

Mini Project

well, i'm in a group with michelle and michaela and we are doing online banking. i'm going to question 4 (describe some ways this information can be misused) and question 5 ( what are the ethical responsibilities of those who maintain the database).
sir decided to discuss each of the topics to give us ideas so here is what i remembered from what he said.
some people steal the eftpos swipers and change it, then pretend to be service men and put it in shops and whoever uses it will have their withdrawl put it in the scamers account and their details will be saved. some people put cameras around it or a device under the keypad so they know your pin.
we will probably do a slide show to present it.

Database of Datatypes

well i created a new database in access about data types you use in a database. the picture is probably too small to read so the fields are: name, description, example and size. the records are: text, memo, number, date/time, currency, autonumber, yes/no, object, hyperlink and lookup wizard. here is the screenshot.

Querying a Database

I have finished putting in the query and it came up with the correct name i put in which is text. when i put in the second name in the 'or' row it came up with both the first and second names i queried.
when you put a query in you can put an * in which represents a wildcard which means that anything can go in it's place. for example, it you are looking up mary and you type m* it means look up any names starting with m. if you put an * before a letter it means that it has to end in that letter and also if you put a letter between two * then it has to that letter somewhere in the name.
when you are querying you can put it in the 'and' row which means it will look up both of what you type in. for example, if you type in tom and frank then it will find both tom and frank. if you type it in the 'or' row it will find both tom and frank or only one.

Creating A Database

the fields i have include: first name, last name, mobile number, home number, street, suburb, postcode, date of birth and id.
we use the id field so that each record is totally unique, so that no two records are the same.

Databases

a database is a collection of related data that is organised for convenient acess and some examples include phone contacts, iTunes, search engines or the yellow pages. the yellow pages is a database because it is a collection of data and it's organised into different catagories so it's easy to locate the right information you are looking for.

some advantages to the electronic databases are that it's easier because you don't have to manually flip thrugh the book to find the information, it includes a map so you can get directions, it's faster, it includes all of Australia not just one state and it takes up less room because it's online.

some dangers or disadvantages to the electronic version are that it is easy to stalk or find personal information like an address.
